Tabby’s musical tribute to much missed husband
A WIDOW from Halifax is producing a charity album to commemorate the first anniversary of her husband’s death.
The brass band album in is memory of Halifax musician Simon Kerwin, who died in November last year following four months of treatment for a germ cell tumour.
The 18-track CD has been produced by Tabby Kerwin to support patients at Leeds Cancer Centre. Sales will benefit Jacqui’s Million, an appeal set up by patient Jacqui Drake, with hospital charity Leeds Cares.
The appeal hopes to raise £1 million for patients at Leeds Cancer Centre.
Simon was a well-respected musician, with over 1,000 compositions and arrangements for brass band and concert band, including for movies Brassed Off and The Full Monty.
Tabby said: “I wanted to celebrate my husband’s life and musical legacy and at the same time continue to raise funds for the cancer centre that looked after Simon so wonderfully.
“Having previously raised funds by running the Great North Run and London Marathon, it was important to use our love of music to benefit others and I wanted to turn the first anniversary of his death into a celebration of music.
“It is also very important to me to support my friend Jacqui Drake and her wonderful mission to raise £1 million via the Jacqui’s Million appeal.”
The CD, recorded by KMJ Recordings, features music composed or arranged by Simon and has been performed by Rothwell Temperance Band under the direction of their Musical Director David Roberts.
“The band is outstanding and they have supported Simon, me and the project so much. I am truly grateful for their kind support and musicianship,” said Tabby.
Tabby also donated nine CD players and copies of the CD to be available to patients receiving chemotherapy.
“Music is a wonderful therapy and whilst I want the financial donations to benefit patients, I also want patients receiving treatment to be able to listen to the music to enjoy and hopefully benefit from relaxation as they undertake their treatment regimes,” she said.
