Hirst and Buckley are first female qualifiers as finals day looms large

THE FINAL two qualifiers for next week’s Total Active Pairs final at Elland CA&BC are Lorraine Hirst and Andrea Buckley, of New Mill, Huddersfield, and Julian Dawson and Paul Lowry of Akroyden Victoria.

Hirst and Buckley, the first female qualifiers, bowled superbly all day.

They started proceedings with a 21-16 first round victory, followed by an impressive 21-14 win in the next round.

A resounding 21-11 success against Graham Roberts and Julie Marsden then propelled them to the final.

Dawson and Lowry were hot and cold throughout the day, but did the business when they needed to.

Lowry bowled many good leads, with Dawson coming in on many occasions to do damage.

They chalked-up two 21-13 victories early in the day and then followed-up with a hard fought qualifier, which they clinched 21-16.

This Sunday is finals day, with a 10.30am start at Elland CA&BC.
