STAINLAND LIONS’ Jim Harris was second in his age category, in the Copeland Chase orienteering race, in West Cumberland, last weekend but admitted that navigation errors proved costly.

Harris completed the tenmile course with 28 control points in two hours, 45 minutes, but after the race said: “A couple of navigation missteps and lack of ambition in route choice probably cost me the age category win.”

The races are a fundraiser for the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and Lions’ Martin O’Brien won his age category in the 10mile race, clocking exactly 90 minutes.

In the half marathon, Kate Ryley recorded a time of 2:34:42.
