Brighouse boss Powell on the look out for centre-backs to bolster his squad

-

BRIGHOUSE TOWN manager Vill Powell has been busy looking to boost the squad with a couple of centre-backs ahead of Saturday’s home game with Trafford FC (3pm).

Connor Griffin sustained a hamstring injury at Kendal that could keep him out for four weeks and Kurt Harris has been hit with a three-match ban following his first-half dismissal in the same game.

Powell has been putting in the phone calls and was confident he would have bodies in for the weekend signing deadline.

Harris will also miss Saturday week’s home game with Mossley and then the away game at Workington.

Another centre-back, Reece Kendall is still two matches away from completing his nine match ban and close-season signing Tom Brennan is out on dual registration back at Penistone Church.

Powell lost his right-back Joe Wilkinson two weeks ago with an avulsion fracture of the left ankle and scans have revealed he could be out for 10 to 12 weeks.

The played 24-year-old, who has

with Huddersfield

Town, Buxton and Ossett United, is still managing to work on crutches in the schools he attends as a sports coach.

Left wing-back Mikey Starkey has had a setback with a torn meniscus in the knee and will need a clean out operation, while fellow left-sided player Ousman Cham is still not over his hamstring injury problems.

Meanwhile, Hull-based midfielder Iwan Heeley is being released and he is in talks with Pickering Town.

Huddersfield-born Heeley is now a schoolteacher on Humberside and was finding it difficult to commit to all the travelling involved.

Town have extended the loan deals with Huddersfield Town midfielder Tim Akinola and also Chesterfield striker Luke Rawson, taking them both to the turn of the year. Right-sided player Tom Robinson missed the game at Kendal with his wife heavily pregnant with their second child.

Visitors Trafford are managed by former FC Halifax Town player Tom Baker and are currently, after their 1-0 win over Ossett United last Saturday, in seventh place in the table.

Darius Palma grabbed their second-half winner against Ossett when they were down to 10 men, after Lewis Salmon received his marching orders for a second yellow card.

Saturday’s game is sponsored by Rastrick Cricket Club, with already 45 members, led by chairman Paul Shaw, committing themselves to attending the match on a weekend when it is the international break and neither Huddersfield Town or Leeds United have a game.

The match ball will be sponsored by Rastrick Constitutional Club.
