Pumas’ Tim paves the way for clubmates in Dewsbury

MORE THAN 50 Northowram Pumas were on the start line at the second West Yorkshire Winter League event of the season, hosted by Dewsbury Road Runners on Sunday.

The cross country route had everything; mud, frost, hills, fields and forests, and it was Tim Brook who led the Pumas home in 17th position.

Northowram Pumas will be welcoming anyone of any ability to join one of their additional runs during December.

The dates of the runs are: Saturday, December 14; Sunday, December 15; Tuesday, December 17; Thursday, December 19; Sunday, December 22; Monday, December 23; Tuesday, December 24; Friday, December 27; Sunday, December 29; Monday, December 30; Tuesday, December 31.

n Stainland Lions’ Lucy Collins and Mags Beever were first and second lady respective­ly at Sunday’s West Yorkshire Winter League race in Dewsbury.

Under the watchful eye of cross country captain Jonathan Pybus, the team put in some excellent individual performanc­es.

the first Lion home and the four counters for the men’s team were Neil Barker, Sean Thompson, Leon Severn and Richard Crombie.

Collins and Beever led the ladies team home with Stefanie Hopkins and Maria Harron the other two counters.

Gavin Dodd took part in the Barrowford Podium 5k on Saturday, but icy conditions prevented him from running at his best and he clocked 20:47.

Nearly 3,000 runners completed the 27th annual Percy Pud 10k in Sheffield on Sunday.

Rio 2016 Olympic 5,000m finalist Eilish McColgan won the ladies’ race in a course record 31:48 and Michelle Rogerson was the first Lion in 47:50.

She was followed by Ian Hoskins (49:47), David Waite (49:58) and Diane Waite (51:13).

n Queensbury Running Club’s super vets team finished first in the West Yorkshire Winter League in Dewsbury.

The club’s men’s team were fourth, the ladies 10th and the vets took fourth as Queensbury were fifth overall.
