Brodleians’ seconds cruise past Morley

-

IT MAY have been only their third game of the season so far but Old Brodleians seconds showed no signs of rustiness as they breezed past Morley 57-10.

Brods’ game plan was get around the flanks of their opposition using the pace of the backs while Thomson’s probing kicks to touch setup advanced field position throughout the game.

One lineout produced the opening score when Jack Moger finished off a catchand-drive to score, Thomson converting, but the hosts then lost prop Jonjo Ward to a yellow card and Morley despatched the resulting penalty to close the gap and make it 7-3.

It failed to stop Brods’ charge however and normal service resumed when wing Alex Hanson made the most of an overlap to score his team’s second try.

Thomson added a penalty to the tally and he then set-up the next try, his kick finding winger Elliot Kebbie who raced under the posts, Thomson tagging-on the extras to make it 22-3 at the break.

The one-way traffic continued into the second half, centre Ross Minney breaking for a try improved by Thomson.

Fly-half Zak Thomson pounced on a loose ball and won the foot race to score a self-converted try before Ben Barron released Matt Smith for a Thomson-converted try.

Rampaging carries from Olly Anderson, Alex Rackstraw and Elliott Hoyle took the Brods forward once again to set-up a try for Jonjo Ward.

Thomson converted and he then added the tricky goal to James Dodd’s try in the corner.

As the home side relaxed, Morley bagged a consolation try under the posts but it did little to spoil Brods’ celebrations.

The Beavers travelled to Castleford and faced a combined first and second team who proved too strong for the Brods thirds but the visitors emerged with great credit from defeat.

The impressive Colts hosted Beverley in the first round of the Yorkshire Cup and cruised through with a 42-12 triumph.

The U15s travelled to Scunthorpe and enjoyed a fine 38-5 win.
