Put the party bickering aside please and do what is best for the people of this area
I DON’T often shout out my views on politics. It’s a bit of a taboo subject like religion, money and sex, that in my worklife I don’t usually share a public opinion on.
Subjects like these are not one you would want to bring up in polite conversation as they often end up causing heated rows, even among colleagues in our small friendly office.
As a journalist, you have to be fair and impartial, give all sides of an argument but hold authorities to account on behalf of your readers and the communities you serve.
I will always fly the flag for my beloved Calderdale and my beloved Yorkshire. I am intensly proud to live and work here and will fiercly defend our interests and stand up for our beautiful and diverse corner of God’s own county.
So as the UK goes to the polls today my message today is please use your vote wisely.
Whatever your politics, whichever party you support, please let’s stop the bickering and move forward in a decisive, positive and constuctive way that benefits Calderdale and Yorkshire as a whole.
There’s so many good things happening here that could be great with support from all politicians.
We are all too familiar with the elections soundbites and slogans. Let’s now put those words into action and reunite the country in the wake of deep divisions that have come as a direct legacy of Brexit and its wider implications.
Calderdale and Yorkshire are at the centre of the northern powerhouse and deserve better.
We need fair funding, an end to the north-south divide, ways to breathe new life into our communities, high streets, towns and cities; support to attract more businesses, more jobs.
Action on rail and better transport links; improvements in social care, education and mental health provision; climate change, the list goes on.
I just hope the parliamentary representatives we elect listen.
