1 Christmas Broadsides
The Viaduct Theatre, Dean Clough, Halifax, December 13-15 This Christmas, Halifaxbased theatre company Northern Broadsides will stage a festive fundraiser, Christmas Broadsides from December 13 – 15 at The Viaduct Theatre, Dean Clough.
This concert is based around Broadside Ballads; song lyrics published from the 1600s onwards featuring popular songs of scurrilous dealings, thwarted love and ginormous geese. Ripponden-based folk musician and multiinstrumentalist Alice
Jones will be joined by two Iranian musicians who have recently arrived in Yorkshire, Amir Beymanesh and Kamran Hoss, in this unique combination of folk song and storytelling.
Local actors Catherine Kinsella and Tom Shaw complete the line-up for this celebration of festive cheer and a reflection on Christmases past, present and future. Christmas Broadsides is sponsored by Mytholmroyd-based company Friendly Soap, who produce ethical, vegan, cruelty-free, plasticfree natural soaps and shampoos.
Christmas Broadsides will be at The Viaduct Theatre, Dean Clough, Halifax on Friday, December 13 at 7pm and on Saturday, December 14 and Sunday, December 15 at 3pm and 6pm. www.northern-broadsides. co.uk
2 Santa Comes to Ogden Water
Ogden Water, Halifax, December 14, 10am–3.15pm
Residents can head along to Ogden Water to visit Father Christmas in his magical woodland grotto in the woods on December 14.

5 Mytholmroyd Christmas Tree Festival
St Michael’s Church, Mytholmroyd, December 14 and 15
St Michael’s Church Christmas Tree Festival is back for its second weekend this week. The festival at the Mytholmroyd church will run over December 14 and 15, open 10am4pm on Saturday and 1pm-4pm on Sunday.
The event is free to attend and the trees on display have been decorated by church groups, local businesses, local groups and schools. Tea, coffee and light refreshments will also be available at the family festive event. www.visitcalderdale.com
