Suttle completes championship winning campaign with victory
THE FINAL races of both Sowerby Bridge Snails’ championships were held in chilly temperatures last weekend.
Huddersfield’s Greenhead Park staged the last round of the parkrun championships and champion Sean Suttle rounded-off his campaign with first place, ahead of Jonathan Moon who also claimed second in the championship standings.
Peter Kerridge clinched the Division One award for the age graded section. Gary Ingham was first home in Division Two but the overall winner was Jamie Lund with Bernard Murphy second. Tracey Kerridge took the age graded award in the division.
In Division Three, Anne Molloy finished first at Huddersfield and claimed the age graded award, with Jennifer Bennet and Suzanne Fretwell first and second overall.
Brian Crowther, who competed in all 10 legs of the parkrun championship came first in Division Four, taking the age graded title, with Liz Park and Liz Keyes first and second overall.
Jen Sutton was first in Division Five, but was second place overall, behind Kelly Whittaker. Helen Chadwick claimed the age graded award.
Sam Wright celebrated winning Division Six with victory in Huddersfield, with Rachel Hughes the runner-up and the age graded award going to Pam McGhee.
On Sunday the Championships came to a close with the final leg in the Bah Humbug 10k, a multi-terrain event at the John Charles Centre for Sport.
Jonathan Moon was the first Snail home in a time of 44:59 and he finished as runner-up to Sean Suttle in the final Division One standings.
Tracey Kerridge was the first female to complete the muddy course in a time of 1:04:40 while
Mark Szefer secured the Division Two crown with a time of 50:30.
The Division Three champion was Verity Garside, who crossed the line in 1:18:31, and the Division Four pace-setter was champion Liz Park.
Emma Greaves pipped Jen Sutton in a closely-fought Division Five and Jodie Smith triumphed in Division Six, beating Rachel Hughes into second place.
Reflecting on the Championships,
Snails founder Jodie Smith said: “We’ve had 13 races totalling 77 miles and 110 runners took part in at least one race. It’s been a brilliant championship year and congratulations to all our Snail winners.
“We can now recharge batteries and do it again in 2020.”
The awards will be presented at the club’s annual dinner in February.
