Todmorden Harriers win women’s team prize

TODMORDEN HARRIERS women’s team were victorious in the Vocation Mytholmroy­d Fell Race.

Seventeen Harriers took to the local hills around Mytholmroy­d for the popular race and Annie Roberts, pictured above, had a great run to finish first in the women’s race and 20th overall with a time of 56:46.

Ambi Swindells (1:09:19) and Jane Leonard (1:21:27) were ninth and 26th in the women’s rankings respective­ly to clinch a superb first place in the team competitio­n.

Duncan Cannon (15th; 54:59), Dom Leckie (17th; 55:53) and Andy Ford (18th; 55:56) were the top three male finishers for Todmorden as the club claimed second place in the team ranks.

Louise Greenwood and Ben Holmes took on the might of the Cheviot Goat Ultra, taking in a long traverse loop of the largest hills in the border region.

Race organisers set out to test the resolve of the athletes as the route took then out into one of the last wild places in England and high up in the fells, runners had to cross peat covered hills, descend grassy banks and chug along the mighty border ridge with Scotland on one side and England on the other.

Greenwood finished eighth female in 15:22:37 and Holmes clocked 15:31:10.
