Sandland hoping to use Ultimate Series as springboard to glory

-

HEAVYWEIGHT JOSH Sandland is hoping that his inclusion in the latest Ultimate Boxxer series can propel his career forward.

The 27-year-old, from Illingworth, faces Kamil Sokolowski in the quarter-finals due to take place on Friday (December 13) at the Planet Ice Arena in Altrincham.

The exciting tournament which aims to give untapped, talented young prospects the chance to be British boxing’s next big star, will be shown live across the country on BT Sport and BoxNation.

Sandland will be joined by five of Britain’s top 20 heavyweight fighters in what is considered to be one of the most highly-anticipated Ultimate Boxxer’s ever.

Fighting out of Chris Aston’s gym in Linthwaite, Huddersfield, the former rugby league prospect can boast wins over the likes of Dominic Akinlade and fellow UB6 competitor Jay McFarlane.

Now on Friday night he gets the opportunity to change his life with the chance to win a part of the £50k cash prize pool.

Sandland, said: “I am always amazed at how far I have come in my career and what I have been able to achieve in such a short space of time.

“Now with the chance to fight on BT Sport in such a huge competition, for the chance to win a portion of the £50k - it is what dreams are made of.

“I have done my time on the smaller shows, I have travelled around the country and perhaps got results I shouldn’t have but now I am ready to arrive on the big stages.

“Everyone in boxing knows how hard it is to get far in the sport, if you don’t have a large following then it’s almost impossible. I can’t wait to get down to London with the crowd travelling down from Halifax to get behind me.

“I really am grateful, I am going to go in there and give it everything I have.”

Pauli Malignaggi, former twoweight world champion and UB ambassador said: “Ultimate Boxxer continues to grow and out-shine itself.

“When we started we always were keen to do a tournament with the heavyweights and now we feel like we have the talent to be able to do it justice.”
