Trip into the unknown as Bake prepares his side for Wensleydale challenge
OLD RISHWORTHIANS face another unknown when they entertain Wensleydale in Yorkshire Two.
The clubs have not met before in league rugby, but the North Yorkshire side lie sixth in the division while Rishworthians have consolidated second place with seven wins in a row.
They retain much the same squad which has brought them those results, but with wing Anthony Shoesmith unavailable may recall Ben Waud for what is likely to be his last game for the club.
“While we don’t know much about them, they seem stronger at home than away,” said Director of Rugby Jon Bake.
He added: “It means we must concentrate on our own strengths and last week’s win at Wetherby was a good example of that.
“We were able to provide good clean ball for the backs and our defensive line speed was great.
“We dropped off in the last quarter as we have done previously, so we need to keep the intensity going.”
RISHWORTHIAN LEOPARDS under 12s played Aireborough on Sunday, running out 3-0 winners in a highly competitive game with some outstanding rugby played by both teams.
In a tight first half defences were on top. As the half came to a close the Aireborough defence were unable to stop a strong run from Oisin Gallen-Watkinson who managed to work his way over the try line for the first score of the match.
As the game moved into the second half and both teams started to opened up.
Some strong running from the Aireborough team was thwarted by the home defence with Jai Thorne and Sam Moore leading the charge.
In the last quarter the Leopards scored two further tries through Oisin Gallen Watkinson following great involving Bailey Newsome and Danny Shepherd.
It was a great team performance with everyone contributing to the 3-0 win.
