Captain’s Column

-

WHEN I went into the referee’s room on Saturday and saw the team Wrexham had put out, it was a bit of a boost for us because they rested a lot of first-team players.

The team still had a lot of experience in it but we just needed to get the job done.

I thought the lads put our wrongs right after last week at Yeovil. We really asserted our authority onto Wrexham in the first 10 or 15 minutes. We didn’t allow them to breathe, we got the goal and went from strength-tostrength.

Next up is Notts County, and that game is really huge. They did a number on us at their place earlier in the season.

We know they’re a big club and we’ve got to be fully aware of what they are - they’re historically a Football League club.

They’re the sort of games you’ve got to be up for. What more can you want than playing Notts County just before Christmas at home infront of a packed out Shay?

We’ve got to make sure we start kicking on in the league now and getting three points on the board.

If it goes really well over Christmas we’ll probably find ourselves top, if it doesn’t go so well we’ll probably find ourselves out of the play-offs and mid-table, and if it’s somewhere in-between we’ll probably be cemented in the play-offs.

Any Town fan will tell you, come this point in the season, they’d have taken being in the play-offs.

We’ve got to come away from the fact that we’ve been top of the league, and we’ve had chances to cement ourselves there.

We’ve come off that standard in recent weeks. We’re more of a top seven team now and we need to keep ourselves there and put ourselves in a position to attack the play-offs, because in a one-off we fancy ourselves against anyone in this division.

We’ve got a game every three days coming up, whichisahellofanask, but we’ve got to adjust to that If you want to be a team that does something at this level, you’ve got to answer those sorts of questions.
