Turner elected as new Brods president as AGM hears of ongoing successes
OLD BRODLEIANS chairman Richard Turner presented his annual report to a well attended meeting in the clubhouse.
Turner reported that the club had enjoyed another good season in 2018-19 at all levels, with 13 boys’ sides and three girls’ sides at age groups from under six to under 18. The club continues to run three senior sides, playing most weekends.
Brods are currently unbeaten in the league and will be Yorkshire’s representatives in the National Intermediate Trophy, initially playing Northern in Newcastle and South Shield Westoe to qualify for the quarter final, when the winning side will represent the North East .
Off the field, Brods continued to enjoy the support of a strong membership and volunteers force in particular at events such as Brodstock which has won numerous awards and brought valuable income to the club as well as earning over £100,000 for charity over the last five years.
“The club is in a superb position,” said Turner.
“Our league record this season speaks for itself and we will certainly be continuing to challenge as the season unfolds. Who knows what lies ahead?
“From an administrative point of view, we have a young, vibrant board and committee most of whom have been members of the club since their youth; they understand the ethics of our club and what makes it tick.”
The club elected a new board with Andy Mear taking over the role of Chairman and Ian Greenwood as vice chair. Gareth Taylor, Steve McAvan and
Martin Smith were re-elected as treasurer, secretary and youth chair respectivel .
Chris Horner retired as president of the club after five years outstanding service. He was thanked by the club for his enthusiasm and outstanding work.
Richard Turner was elected as the club’s new president and presented with the TL Asquith Trophy in recognition of services to the club.
Brods’ away game at Goole was postponed and will now be played on January 20.
