Halifax Harriers ladies celebrate vets title in speedy Ribble Valley 10k race

HALIFAX HARRIERS’ ladies claimed the vets title at the Ribble Valley 10k.

Athletes from all over the UK were out to get a sub-30 minute time. This year there were 12 men under the half-hour mark, with the first three breaking the course record. The winner was Marc Stott in an excellent time of 28:22.

The ladies winner was internatio­nal runner Jess Judd in 32:17 and there were a further seven ladies finishing in under 35 minutes.

Halifax Harriers’ ladies secured the vets crown, led home by F50 winner Katrina Oddy (42:42), with Rachael Beaumont not far behind in 43:51 (third F50) and Angela Clarke making up the team in a personal best of 44:50.

Susan Hall was the F70 winner in a club record of 1:00:35, breaking her own record by almost four minutes.

Halifax Harriers’ men were led home by Sunny Curwen in a personal best of 39:48, followed by Will Carver (41:47) and Tristan Watson in a personal best 43:46.

Todmorden Harriers ’ Katie Samuelson recorded a great time of 43.55 to put her ninth in the women’s V40 list and 440th in a field of 1,288.

Todmorden Harrier Andrew Worster was the winner of the Boxing Day fancy dress fell race at Whinberry Naze.

Ricky Parish, Louise Abdy and Greg May were the other three runners from Todmorden taking part in the race that comprises a four-mile dash up to the 440m Cowpe Lowe in Rossendale.

Calder Valley Fell Runners’ Holly Page produced a fine run to claim third in the women’s standings while Valley clubmate James Williams finished 12th overall and first in the V40 list.

Another well attended festive race was the Coley Canter, a fast trail race that takes in Judy Woods and the fields east of Northowram, over a route just short of eight miles in length.

Calder Valley’s Luke Meleschko celebrated one of his best ever results when he secured sixth place in 59:36.
