Brown: We’re more than capable of top seven finish

- Tom Scargill

FC HALIFAX Town skipper Matty Brown says The Shaymen are more than capable of finishing in the play-offs this season

Pete Wild’s side are among several sides with top-seven ambitions, despite their form veering from a superb start to an awful run towards the end of the year.

But Brown is confident the Town squad is good enough to finish in the top seven.

“We’ve always started campaigns well and then tailed off, but we kept the good spell going a lot longer than normal this season,” he said. ”We’re going into the rest of the season in a good position. The target is definitely to cement our place in the play-off spots.

“The 50-point mark is still our first objective but it’s nice to be looking up rather than looking at staying in the league.

“We always come on strong towards the end of the season, but we just want to put a winning run together and see where that takes us.

“If I’m totally honest, I don’t think we’ve got enough to challenge for the league, but I think we’re more than capable of cementing ourselves as a play-off side.

“It’s going to be tough and it’s really tight but if you put a good run together, you stand a good chance of being there or thereabouts.”

When asked what qualities The Shaymen will need over the rest of the season, Brown said: “Findings ways to win. I think we’ve got a good team, but when we’ve drawn or lost, we just need to find that knack of winning, staying in games as long as we can.

“I don’t know what sort of backing the gaffer’s going to get to add in certain positions, but sometimes a spark can come from someone new coming in.

“We’re a young side and we’re going to be naive at times, but the more streetwise we can become, I think that will coincide with winning more games.

“The way we started the campaign, it went on too long to call it a flash-in-the-pan. We know it’s in there.

“It’s just about finding that again.”
