Illingworth St Mary’s take on Denholme in relegation six-pointer

-

ILLINGWORTH ST Mary’s host Denholme United in a crucial game in the fight for Premier Division survival.

Both teams are on seven points, just three clear of the bottom two. Joe Griffin has been a key man for Illingworth and, along with eight goal David Suddall, has given them belief they can survive.

Denholme, however, are a side that will never lie down and will battle to the end. Front man Michael Midgley is chipping in with goals that could prove to be a lifeline.

Hebden Royd Red Star have seen their title challenge knocked off course with defeat in their last three outings, which could give bottom side Northowram renewed hope of picking up vital points.

Sowerby United, level on points with Northowram, face a tough game with mid-table Midgley. Shelf FC can draw level on points with leaders Sowerby Bridge if they win at Greetland.

First Division leaders AFC Crossleys have won their last five games and are looking strong favourites for the title. They travel to Midgley United Res intent on keeping the winning run going.

Ryburn United have climbed up to second thanks to not being beaten in the league since September. A trip to an out of sorts Salem should bring a win to keep them in touch of the leaders.

Elland United are suffering a dip in form that has seen them slip from being title chasers to three places off the bottom, and may find it difficult to improve things when they take on high-flying Calder 76.

St Columbas could still have an outsiders chance of getting into the promotion race but need a win at Northowram Res.

The Second Division title is Hebden Royd Red Star Reserves’ to lose. Only one defeat in 11 means they hold a four point lead as they travel to AFC Crossleys Res.

Ivy House are in good form and look the biggest threat to the leaders. They face a tricky test at Calder 76 Res.

Third placed Flying Dutchman take on Warley Rangers and look set for a seventh win in eleven outings.

Sowerby United Res visit neighbours Sowerby Bridge Res for what could be a tight contest.

St Columbas Res host Greetland Res and could be looking at gaining only their second win of the season.
