Come and join our industrious volunteers!
Tim Kirker, Chairman, Calderdale Industrial Museum
UNDER the ‘What to Do’ section of the Courier website it lists the 14 top rated destinations in Halifax, with Shibden Hall at Number 1, and Calderdale Industrial Museum at Number 14.
But this doesn’t seem to stack up, if you go into TripAdvisor.
You readers will be interested to know that under attractions in Halifax, the Industrial Museum is at Number 1, under ‘ranking’, and Number 5, under ‘favourites’.
The difference is presumably because Shibden, and others, get many more visitors than we do, but we get the highest quality rating.
So, the truth is that the amazing effort, expertise and enthusiasm of our volunteers is recognised by the consistent five star reviews that we receive, week in, week out, on both TripAdvisor and Google.
Pushing our way up the ‘favourites’ ranking will not be easy since, at the moment, we open only on Saturdays.
We hope to start opening two days per week but this will be a big ask for our volunteers, when around 15 people need to give up a day every time we open.
What we really need is more volunteers! If you fancy joining us in what is the best personshed in Yorkshire (we have nearly as many women volunteers as men . . .), then feel free to pop in for a chat on a Saturday, or on a Tuesday or Thursday when we have volunteers in working.
You don’t need to be an expert in things technical. The range of skills required is very broad, with volunteers needed in reception; in the cafe; in admin; as room stewards; cleaners; polishers; finance; maintenance; management and more.
And of course, we do need skilled people to work on the machines and demonstrate them when we are open. And we have a lot of fun and a fair bit of craic.
Contact us via our website www. calderdaleindustrialmuseum. co.uk, or enquiries@ calderdaleindustrial.co.uk, or pop in for a brew.
