Halifax score five goals but settle for a draw in Premier goal-fest at Hallam

HALIFAX MEN’S firsts were involved in a Yorkshire Premier goal-fest at Sheffield Hallam on Saturday.

Both sides had to settle for a point after playing out a thrilling 5-5 draw, in which Michael Jones netted a brace and Josh Sutcliffe, Andy Kaye and Dave Wheatley added to the Halifax tally.

Man of the match was Casey Marshall for tireless work in midfield.

In Yorkshire League Division One, Halifax men’s seconds matched lofty visitors Doncaster in a goalless first half but fell away after the break and lost out 4-0.

Michael Brook’s outstandin­g defending earned him the man of the match trophy.

Halifax men’s thirds dominated their Division Four North match against Acomb and eased to a 2-0 victory.

Goals were scored by Aidan Crowe and Bryn Hans, with Crowe sharing the man of the match award with Will Chan for bossing the midfield throughout the game.

Halifax men’s fourth team were well beaten 8-1 by a very efficient Wakefield team in Division

Five North. Andrew Bottomley scored the solitary goal and won the man of the match with a fine all round display.

The developmen­t team played Slazenger and the 1-1 scoreline was a good result for the developing young players who played some good passing hockey for large parts of the game.

Amos Mackrill scored a fine goal and Alistair Cooke and Dominic Taylor went agonisingl­y close to winning the game for the team.

Hayden Kelsey was the player of the match after showing good ball control and the ability to make the correct pass.

Euan Hancock, Jacob Mackrill, Jacob Purdy, Archie Hall and Keane Kendell are all making good progress and Bethan Dowson made some crucial saves in her first match as the team’s keeper.

■ Meanwhile, Michael Brook and Archie King have produced fine displays while representi­ng West Yorkshire in recent matches at U17s level.

The lads are now establishe­d players in the men’s second team and on the cusp of first team hockey.
