Boss Wild hails “massive three points” for Town after 1-0 win at Chorley

-

ON THE day the death of Jordan Sinnott was announced, it was fitting Town’s number 10 should be the match-winner.

Sinnott otfen wore that shirt with the ability and skill it traditionally symbolises in football, so Cameron King seemed the appropriate player to provide Halifax’s goal in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Chorley.

King had his namesake Jeff to thank for the assist, a terrific right-wing crossm which was met with a back post header.

Devante Rodney had a goal chalked off for offside in the first minute before his shot was blocked after a burst forward, and then his 25 yard drive whistled just wide

Rodney and Jack Redshaw both brought good saves from keeper Matt Urwin, but Chorley had chances too, with Sam Johnson keeping out Connor Hall’s effort and Alex Newby hitting the woodwork with a spectacular long-range effort.

But in a more sedate secondhalf, King’s goal proved decisive.

“I thought we were comfortable,” said Town boss Pete Wild. “We did everything but score in the first-half, and then they had a great shot that hits the bar, and Sam (Johnson) pulled off a good save.

“They (Chorley) had a really good go, I thought they played some good stuff. But I thought we were always in the ascendancy and I never saw us getting beat if I’m honest.

“I was nervous about coming here because these are the games where you never know what’s going to happen.

“It was about our attitude and application this week, and then hopefully your quality shines through, and I thought the lads’ attitude and application was spot on today.”
