■ A hardy bunch from Calder Valley Fell Runners braved the fells last weekend for the sixth instalment of the club’s Resolution Run.

Meanwhile, Valley’s Ben Mounsey bagged another win in Southern Spain, fighting off some of the finest trail runners in the region to claim the Gegant De Pedra crown.

The race is run over 21k with an equally challenging climb of 1,150m but Mounsey continued his good form by clocking a new course record.

Mounsey said: “It was my second race in less than 15 hours so the legs were tired and I had to work hard against some strong competition. It was a crazy route in parts with gnarly descents, steep climbs, make-shift wooden bridges and narrow drainage channels.”

■ Four members of Sowerby Bridge Snails ran the first leg of the Pennine Trails at Dunsop Bridge, a 12k run through farmland, open trails, tracks and Whitmore Woods.

Amanda Aveyard led the Snails home in 1:33:23, followed by Alice Austin-Howarth (1:34:19), Sandra Pinder (1:34:55) and Anne Molloy (1:40:49).

Meanwhile, the latest members of Snails’ C25K graduated at last weekend’s parkrun at Shroggs Park.

The runners have been training twice a week since the start of the year and after the graduation, Andy Mellor said: “I’m so chuffed with myself after managing to get round.

“Thank you to everyone who cheered me on. It’s been a great experience, with a wonderful group of people.”
