Williams hits five past Leeds students as thirds embark on 10-goal rampagae

-

HALIFAX LADIES thirds went on the rampage against the University of Leeds, storming to a 10-1 success.

After playing the University of Leeds three weeks ago, Halifax were expecting a tough game.

But after a change in personnel for the away side, it was soon apparent that the game was going to be very different.

Halifax roared out of the blocks with two goals in the first five minutes of the game.

Halfway through the first half, the home side were five in front, when Leeds managed to get a goal back.

But Halifax pushed on and took it to 7-1 at the half.

The second half saw more of the same from Halifax with them having most of the possession.

Midfielders Margaret Bottomley, Louise Evans, Ellie Sutcliffe and Anya Wasilewski provided the push forward for Halifax and defenders Jess Stott, Sam Garlinge, Nicola Boulton, Gemma Robinson and Laura Neimantas made sure goalkeeper Kathy Shao had very little to trouble her throughout the game.

With three more goals in the half, Halifax’s total went to 10, with five scored by Helen Williams, four by Emma Crawford and one for Evans.

This fantastic win sees Halifax move to second in the table and back into a promotion spot.

HALIFAX LADIES fifth team slipped to a 2-1 defeat against University of Leeds.

Leeds had the best of the early moments in the game and the Halifax defence was powerless when Leeds were given a short corner and scraped the ball into the bottom left corner.

Halifax then settled and the rest of the game became an even contest.

Daisy Tomlinson ran the ball up the right and set up the goal for Emma Clarkson to sweep it across the keeper and find the bottom left corner.

Late on in the half Leeds had a series of short corners and the third was slipped it into the bottom left, just out of reach.

Halifax made rapid progress up the pitch with balls up the middle from player of the match Alicia Powers, Sarah Batty and Alana Hampshire but the attacks by Clarkson, Tomlinson and Sam Suttcliffe were well defended by the Leeds back line.

In the second half, despite notable attempts on both sides the defences held firm with great tackles from Buckle and Hellowell, and impressive last ditch interceptions by PennyWard and Sutherland.

All in all a good team performance.
