WE SET our goals at the start of the season, the night before we played Ebbsfleet away for the opening game, we set our targets, and so far, so good.

We’re hitting our targets, but goalposts can move during the season and we’re not the type of people who are going to hide away.

We are achieving more than we probably expected to so we’ve had to adjust things.

We’re in a position that we thoroughly deserve, and that we’ve earned.

Now it’s the countdown, this is the business end of the season. No leagues are won early on, in August or September, it’s this next couple of months now where things are won and lost.

It’s who can hold their nerve, and who can get some momentum. We had that momentum in recent weeks and we’re hoping we can kick on and keep progressing.

We’ve got an honest squad, and when you’ve got everyone on board willing to make sacrifices for the team and not be selfish in the way they play, I think that stands you in good stead generally.

On the flip side, we’ve always tended to go lengthy spells without picking up wins, and that’s what’s caused us to struggle in recent years.

We’ve always started well and we’ve always finished well in my time at the club, but there’s been those middle periods when we’ve been lacking.

It’s no coincidence that our middle period has been good this season, and that’s why we’re still up there.

It’s no good having good spells at the start, or the middle, or the end, you’ve got to put them all together if you want to be successful.

We’ll have a few more bumps along the road, that’s absolutely guaranteed, as will everyone else.

It’s about getting back to winning ways as quick as you can after suffering a loss, or sometimes a draw is like a loss in this league.

But it’s not about how we get there, it’s just about getting there.
