“We kept on going until the end” - Wild praises his side’s character after win

-

FC HALIFAX Town boss Pete Wild praised the character of his side after they beat Sutton United 1-0 at The Shay.

“I thought we played some really good stuff, especially firsthalf,” said Wild.

““We were excellent with the ball, created numerous chances.

“The goal from Tobi (ShoSilva), the ref said because it got a flick on, he’s offside, but he’s not, I’ve seen the goal back, there’s nothing wrong with it.

“I’ve seen the penalty back (that wasn’t given for an alleged trip on Jeff King) as well and I’ve told the ref at half-time they were two legitimate goals, and he’s not given both of them.

“That’s really frustrating. But, one thing I’ll say about them, I thought we showed good character, we kept on going until the end, and I thought we deserved the win in the end.

“Second-half we forced it a bit, the pitch got a bit tougher, and we forced it a bit, which is something we need to learn from in the run-in, that we are going to have cagey games and we’re going to learn how to get over the line.”

Wild added: “The big message at half-time was more of the same, we’ve got to keep going and stick to the plan, we’ve got to be patient.

“We varied from the plan a little bit, which frustrated me second-half, but we still created chance after chance, so I knew a goal would come at some point, it was just making sure we shut the back door and didn’t concede a daft one.

“But I thought the goal was coming, and I’m really pleased to get over the line.

“It doesn’t matter how you win at this time of the season, it’s just about winning, and we’ve done that.”

Wild was pleased his side’s persistence was eventually rewarded with a winner.

“I keep saying it about this team, what they lack in ability they make up for in hard work,” said the Town boss. “That’s not being disrespectful to them because there’s some top players here, but they don’t give up, and they never-say-die.”
