Todmorden driver fulfilling his boyhood dreams on the track
FROM THE age of our, Brendan Maude has dreamed of emulating his idol Michael Schumacher.
As a child growing up in Todmorden, Maude would get out of bed early to watch Grand Prix races, aspiring of one day competing in the sport himself.
“I always felt really comfortable behind the wheel,” he said.
“I was so eager to pass my driving test and get out earning throughout the whole competition,” he said.
“After driving the GinettaI realised just how much an amazing little car it is. There was no way I was leaving my hopes and dreams on the track after just one spin.
“I had caught the bug and I couldn’t put it down.
“Eventually, at the close of 2018, I managed to secure the car.”
Since purchasing his own Ginetta G40 in 2018, the 34-yearold has tried to gain as much experience in the car as possible, and signed up to the Ginetta racing Drivers’ Club, opting to skip the amateur class and join the professional category, and is part of the Assetto Motorsport team.
“The dream is obviously to win the championship and progress further up the motorsport ladder,” he said.
“Formula One would be out of the question unfortunately.
“Assuming I do well in the
GRDC I would be looking to step up to G40 Cup class next year.
“Following on, possibly Ginetta GT5’s which is on the touring car package.
“Ideally I’m aiming to get up to BTCC level as a long term goal, the racing is some of the most exciting to watch out of all the championships which makes me quite eager to be a part of it.”
