Pandemic forces Cham to put his dream move Stateside on hold

- Dave Parker

BRIGHOUSE TOWN’S outgoing wide player Ousman Cham has had to alter his plans owing to the Covid-19 worldwide outbreak.

The 20-year-old former FC Halifax Town player was heading for the University of South Carolina to study business and finance as well as play football but has put the move on hold.

Since leaving full-time employment at The Shay, Cham, has been employed by Brighouse Town sponsor Timothy Masunda, principal of Bridge End-based recruitment company Circle 365 Recruitment. One of the contracts the Gambian has been working on is care work at Bridge House Care Home, off Bradford Road, Brighouse.

He came to this country at the age of six with his family and they currently reside in Kinsley, near Hemsworth.

Cham was on loan with Town last season and this time signed on after being released by the National League club and says he has thoroughly enjoyed his two spells at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium.

When he does get chance to fly out to the United States he will commence a three-year course and also put the feelers out for a club to join.

Mr Masunda said:” Ousman has done both himself and the club proud in his employment with me and I am sure he will achieve his worldly goals.

He has intelligence, personality and drive and I wish him well.”

Former Town player and manager Mark Booth, who is now a valued member of the management committee, has drawn up a comprehensive list of jobs to be worked on behind closed doors at the ground.

Booth, now manager of Calder Valley Storage, Luddendenfoot, and a builder, has inspected the entire stadium with general manager Darren Laycock and provided the chairman and his committee colleagues with jobs to be done, while still observing government guidelines.

While some of the older committee members are self-isolating with wives who have underlying health issues, he will have assistance of the club’s academy coach Barry Thomas and life member Barrie Fitzjohn, if they can source the materials required with so many building supply companies closed.

Town’s Northern Premier League, The Isthmian League and two Southern Leagues are on the lookout for a new sponsor after Gibraltar-based bookmakers BetVictor exercised a clause in their two-year contract to pull out on July 9, after one year from their £100,000plus per-season deal.
