‘Farewell to our Wee Bonnie Lassie, Nan’

- Leanne Clarke

THE DAUGHTER of a muchloved Halifax woman who passed away last week has thanked staff at the care home who were with her mum in her final moments.

Agnes ‘Nan’ Hunter Brown, 83, passed away peacefully on April 15 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Her daughter, Joanne Keary, has paid tribute to her mum, thanking staff at Savile Park Care Home who provided her care during the past six years.

Joanne said “Due to current circumstances, we are unable see her at the funeral home. It will be especially hard not being able to have a proper funeral for her, however we will do something special if we can on her birthday this August.”

Joanne said she would like to thank the care home, in particular Paula, Mandy, Kelly and all the carers on her mum’s floor.

“Special thanks also to Becky for being with her when she passed away.”

Nan, as she was known, was born in Paisley, near Glasgow. After moving as a teenager to New York with family, she returned to Scotland, where she met her late husband, Bernard.

The couple settled in Halifax in the 1960s. Nan worked with school meals and later became head cook at Claremount Nursing Home, until she retired.

Joanne said: “I have lots of happy memories of visiting her at her care home.

“She was an amazing dancer who dragged me and her carer round the room.

“In her advancing stages she took to singing more. We sat and sung Scottish songs, her favourite being “I Love a Lassie – A Bonnie, Bonnie Lassie’ So, on her final journey, I will be singing and dancing with her one last time. I dedicate my final words to my Wee Bonnie Lassie, Nan.”

A private cremation will be held at Park Wood, Elland, Halifax. A celebration of her life will take place later this year.
