Lock down can’t stop the dancing

- Sal Wilcox

LIMELIGHT THEATRE school in Rastrick have taken to the internet to keep the community singing and dancing during lockdown.

After realising lock down may have a serious impact on their business, husband and wife team James and Lisa McCann decided to start streaming classes online.

For £7 a week, subscibers have access to Limelight’s wide range of classes including: fitness classes for all ages and abilities, drama lessons, tap dancing classes, musical theatre lessons, baby and toddler classes and a live cabaret show every Saturday evening.

“Lockdown had a huge impact on us, as we’ve had to shut the doors to our theatre school and stop all classes. We were working towards a show in June at the Victoria Theatre and obviously that has had to be postponed too.

“A few days before the lockdown, we saw where things might be going, so decided to begin streaming our classes live online.

“Our customers can access all their fitness classes live and on demand, whenever they feel like it,” said James.

The digital classes have become a project for the whole family, with daughters Eliza, 13, and Molly, 9, also getting involved.

“We are lucky as our dance studio is attached to the side of our house. so even in lockdown we can work.

“Between homeschool sessions, our daughters help with classes and read stories during our Boogie Babes toddler classes.

“Lisa runs all the classes from the studio and so far, she’s not completely lost the plot while dancing and speaking to an empty room.

“It’s been a steep learning curve but we are determined to make sure people keep dancing!”
