Release of D-Day Darlings’ new album to mark VE Day

-

The D-Day Darlings have previewed their commemorative VE Day deluxe edition of their hit debut album ‘I’ll Remember You’ with a new version of Dame Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again.

For the new track, The D-Day Darlings have teamed up with singer Shirlie Kemp, bringing a new dimension to a track redefined during this poignant time. We’ll Meet Again is available as an instant grat track.

The track is the second to be taken from a forthcoming special edition of The D-Day Darlings’ silver certified album ‘I’ll Remember You’ commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the victorious VE Day celebrations, released on Friday 8 May 2020.

Featuring four brand new tracks, the album includes Sweetheart, an ode written for Dame Vera Lynn (the original and one and only Forces Sweetheart), for her 103rd birthday.

Katie Ashby, The D-Day Darlings said: “We’ll Meet Again is one of my most favourite songs and to have the opportunity to release this wonderful song, with such a strong message, through these dark days is so poignant, we’re so proud to have the beautiful Shirlie Kemp joining us on this song, she truly is a Darling and, with a shared passion for our cause, we felt there was no one more fitting to join us on our album.”

Shirlie Kemp said: “We’ll Meet Again is such a powerful message to friends, families and loved ones, especially as our generation is going through an unprecedented time. I don’t think there was a more fitting song to sing at this time of great separation.”

To mark the release of We’ll Meet Again, the D-Day Darlings have joined with Shirlie Kemp, to create a ‘make do and mend’ remote music video that reflects how people can still keep in touch by using such brilliant forms of technology and a message of hope that We Will Meet Again.

Following their highly emotional performances on Britain’s Got Talent 2018, The D-Day Darlings welcomed huge success with their debut album ‘I’ll Remember You’. The album charted at number 15 in the official album charts, selling over 60,000 copies and earning them a Silver Disc award, following a signing to Sony Music UK.

Regarded as the UK’s premier wartime act, The D-Day Darlings will re-release their debut album ‘I’ll Remember You’, to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day!

The re-release will feature four brand new tracks, including the previously mentioned Sweetheart, as well as Now Is the Hour and Bless ‘Em All/Hang Out The Washing on the Siegfried Line/Kiss Me Goodnight Sgt Major.

The final extra track, When You Wish Upon A Star, introduces The D-Day Juniors on record for the first time.

The D-Day Juniors is a young troupe of performers aged between 6 and 17 years, who were inspired by The Darlings.

They bring original wartime-inspired songs to events nationwide. They continue the group’s ethos to spread the message of Remembrance into the modern and future generations, educating people on the lessons we can learn from history.

Produced by Tim Woodcock (Little Mix, John Newman, The Wanted), the original album consists of iconic wartime classics, including White Cliffs of Dover, We’ll Meet Again and 2 original songs I’ll Remember You and Mary (a tribute to Mary Ellis, the last female spitfire pilot who passed away in July 2018) both co-written with Katie Ashby. Each song on the album evokes the emotional family stories that the group’s members have with the World Wars.
