School’s ‘hard work’ pays off

- Sam McKeown

A SCHOOL is revelling in success after receiving its latest Ofsted report.

Cliffe Hill Community Primary School, on Stoney Lane in Lightcliffe, was rated “good” in its Ofsted inspection.

It is the second Ofsted report in a row giving the school the rating, with the institution also achieving an “outstanding” score during the inspection for its personal development of pupils.

Head teacher Lindsay Lomas said: “We’re delighted the ethos and hard work of our school community has been recognised in our most recent Ofsted report.”

The report also stated many parents and carers living out of the area travel extra miles to get their children into the school.

The school, like many others within Calderdale, has been closed since lockdown began in late March due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

“At such a difficult time, it has been nice to share positive news with those involved with Cliffe Hill,” said Ms Lomas.

The priority during Ofsted reports is the overall effectiveness category, for which Cliffe Hill School scored a “good” rating overall.

The school also picked up “good” ratings in quality of education; behaviour and attitudes; leadership and management; and early years provision.

Regarding improvements it can make in the future, the school is aiming to boost its teachers’ ability to better develop the pupils’ vocabulary, communication and language skills within the seven areas of learning, including literacy and mathematics.
