Overgate’s colourful rainbow ribbons brighten up lockdown
OVERGATE HOSPICE’S ‘Rain bow of Ribbons’ campagin has raised £15,000 for the charity, whilst helping residents remember lost loved ones.
Due to the coronavirus crisis, several of the hospice’s fundraising events have been cancelled. Despite losing a major source of income, the hospice still needs to find £11,600 every single day, in order to continue providing care for vulnerable people in our community.
The charity was disappointed to have to cancel their annual Garden Party on May 30, where supporters usually partake in the Rainbow of Ribbons campaign.
‘It’s so wonderful to see our community once again support us is a very meaningful way’
The campaign encourages people to make a deciation of a loved one, in the form of a colorful ribbon, which are then used to decorate the hospice’s impressive gardens.
However this year, the hospice has distrubuted the ribbons across the region and supporters have been decorating their own homes and gardens with the vibrant ribbons.
Senior Fundraiser Claire Howard, is thrilled and humbled by the community’s unwavering support during lockdown.
Claire said: “It’s so wonderful to see our community once again support us in a very meaningful way. We have sent out hundreds of colourful ribbons which are dedicated to very special people, those who are loved and missed every day.
“Our event offers a special opportunity for people to come together and return to the garden that means so much when remembering their loved ones.
“We are truly disappointed to not be able to offer this opportunity this year but in its’ place we have seen our community come together virtually and share pictures of their special ribbons, who they are dedicated to and where they have chosen to attach them.”
Meanwhile, after having to close all 14 of its Calderdale charity shops for ten weeks due to the Covid-19 lockdown, the hospice will begin to re-open some of the stores as of next Monday, June 15.
