‘Heartbroken’ woman wants her mum home

- Sam McKeown

A HEARTBROKEN woman is desperate to raise money so she can bring her mum home after she died of cancer abroad.

Charlotte Robert, 18, who lives in Pellon, Halifax, is moving mountains to bring her mum Jaime Robert, 42, back to the UK from the Canary Islands after she died of cancer last Friday.

Her mum had been living in Lanzarote since moving there in December 2018, but recently wanted to return home to see her daughter,.

However, due to measures in place to combat the global coronavirus pandemic, Charlotte’s mum was restricted in her travelling.

Charlotte said: “She was bubbly, out going and would have done anything for me. “I’ve never had a relationship with my biological father after he left when I was a baby, and I try to keep in contact with my stepdad. But I feel she was my only parent.

“It’s the most important thing in the world for me to get her back home.

“Before she died, she kept telling me how much she wanted to see me and come back to England.

“It’s heartbreaking because we fell out before she moved, so to bring her home would be closure to me - I just want her back.”

This week, Charlotte has been in contact with Spanish solicitors and has paid for legal costs, but she is now pleading to members of the public to help with transporting the urn home, as well as funeral costs.

Her mum was cremated on Saturday, so Charlotte is now working hard to get her ashes back to England.

“I’m only 18, I need help to cover funeral fees,” said Charlotte. “I have the option of her being collected and brought home, or to be sent home, and as you know Covid-19 is a issue, and flights aren’t exactly as available as the norm.

“I just want to say a huge thank you to everybody who’s reached out to me, my family, and to the people who have donated and shared. My mum deserves a good send off she was everybody’s friend.”

Once back home, Ms Robert says she will spread her mum’s ashes in Warrington, where she is originally from. If you would like to donate, visit: www.gofundme.com/f/ rcbd6-getting-my-mum-home
