Hairdressers happy to be back

- Tom Scargill

HAIRDRESSERS AND barbers across Calderdale have breathed a sigh of relief after welcoming back the first wave of clients.

Last weekend salons and barbers were given the green light to reopen their doors to the public, providing that they follow social distancing and hygiene regulations.

Shimal Mohammed, of Brighouse Barbers, said: “We have spent close to £1,000 on PPE and will continue to do what it takes to be safe for our customers and our staff.

“We have had to reduce the capacity in our shop which means people are having to wait outside for their turn due to social distancing.

“Customers have to leave contact details for test and trace purposes which we keep for 21 days and we ask all customers to gel their hands on entry and exit.

“Despite the long hours and tiring days we are very happy to be here and very confident we are operating as safely as we can.

“Our risk assessment remains a working document that is reviewed continuously throughout this current situation.

“We will always err on the side of caution, we feel we are all better safe than sorry.”

Clare Lumb owns Studio 54 in Boothtown. They have introduced a one way system, with entering customers coming through the front door and exiting customers leaving via the back door. The reception desk has also been moved in order to adhere to social distancing.

Clare said: “Now that the government have released the official Guidelines for the country, it’s been all hands on deck. The phone hasn’t stopped ringing. I am now fully booked till the end off July and have had to set up a cancellation list. It’s gonna be like a Christmas rush, but I can’t wait to get back in the salon.”
