Praise for community’s “remarkable effort”

-

This week as the Courier pays a Big Thank You tribute to #healthheroes, key workers, charities and volunteers, Halifax MP Holly Lynch shares her own thoughts on how our district has embraced life in lockdown

I WANT to start off with a huge thank you to our community for its resilience and patience during this coronavirus crisis.

This week marks the 72nd anniversary of the NHS and it provides us with the perfect opportunity to once again thank all our NHS staff.

Many of them have been on the front line fighting this awful pandemic which has affected so many families, both here in Calderdale and worldwide.

And we should extend that thanks to all key workers who have kept the country going at this most difficult of times.

the care workers, those involved in supplying our food and other essential goods, post workers, waste disposal, bereavement services, our police and fire service, teachers and child minders, social workers, council officers, pharmacists, our charities and community groups, and all the local businesses and individuals who have also lent a hand… the list goes on.

The weekly clapping on our doorsteps may have ended, but our gratitude for all those who have kept our country going and kept us safe has not.

Around 1,000 people have volunteered with the council in the past three months to help neighbours with shopping and medicines, with many more signing up with the NHS or local community groups. This is a remarkable effort.

Calderdale is no stranger to adversity, having faced three major floods in a decade, but the way our community has pulled together has once again brought out the best in our borough and shown just how resilient we are. My team and I continue to assist hundreds of constituents per week with Coronavirus-related casework.

If there is anything you think I can do to help please do get in touch. Once again a big thank you to our key workers, and do stay safe – this virus has not gone away.
