Todmorden art gallery welcomes back visitors
WATER STREET Gallery in Todmorden is thrilled to be reopening its doors after receiving a grant from the Arts Council.
The ‘Let’s Create’ grant has been rolled out in a bid to help galleries recover from lockdown by increasing footfall and expanding their digital services.
Water Street Gallery is ran by Rosemary and Mike Holcroft.
Rosemary said: “The Arts Council Grant has been a lifeline in that I can begin to fulfil my wish list to expand the way the gallery functions and benefits our artists and the wider community, by employing an expert digital developer and a local marketing company as well as a part time assistant.
“Three months without art lovers and customers was odd to say the least, with paintings and sculpture waiting to be seen and craft and gifts untouched.
“Of course there was a financial impact, though we had good on line sales, and made good use of time for backroom catchup, including securing a safe environment for re-opening.
“Initial nervousness about opening our doors three weeks ago has been offset by the kindness and consideration of most customers, though it is difficult to persuade certain people to wear masks when in a potentially busy period.
“Making contact with artists who are now able to deliver new works is particularly satisfying, who are looking forward to sales picking up when people feel confident to venture out.”
