Overgate’s special tribute for our community’s key workers
OVERGATE HOSPICE has thanked key workers for their support and service during the coronavirus crisis, by dedicating a gold leaf to them on their memory tree.
Their own key workers – doctors, nurses, housekeeping, catering and beyond have all continued to dedicate their support for the patients and families being cared for at the Ellandbased hospice.
Janet Cawtheray, Chief Executive said “This leaf is in honour of the whole Overgate team who have continued to provide the very best care to our community during this incredibly difficult time.
‘We are incredibly proud to be part of the Calderdale community’
“I am so proud of every member of the hospice family who have been devoted to shielding our patients from the chaos outside, ensuring their final days are filled with peace, love and comfort.
“But we are also incredibly proud to be part of the Calderdale community and we want to acknowledge the dedicated work of all of the keyworkers who have been there for us all during this crisis.”
The Memory Tree at the hospice is a unique memorial that is visited by family members of loved ones who are sadly no longer with us. The leaf will sit proudly alongside the many different leaves engraved with loved ones names and special messages and will remain on display as a tribute to this unprecedented year.
The Memory Tree offers the opportunity to have a bronze, silver or gold leaf engraved in memory of a loved one and the donation made for this helps to care for more people in need of the specialist care and support at Overgate.
Overgate offers palliative and symptom management care free of charge for any adult in Calderdale.
In order to comtiue providing their care and services, the hospice needs to find £11,600 every single day.
This year has been particularly difficult for the charity, as they have had to cancel several of their Spring/Summer fundraising events, such as the annual garden party, due to the coronavirus crisis.
