Shaymen set target of kicking-off pre-season training before end of August
FC HALIFAX Town assistant manager Chris Millington says the club have targeted beginning pre-season training before the end of the month.
The new National League season is due to get underway on Saturday, October 3.
“We’re looking at getting some physical testing done towards the end of August, so we’ve got our baseline stats going into pre-season training,” Millington said.
“We’ve not confirmed absolutely 100 per cent, but the last week running up to the end of August will be when all that process begins.
“We’ve got the plan in place and we’re just in the process of confirming dates with players as and when we’ve got the squad finalised.”
And the assistant boss said that Town’s pre-season friendly schedule is almost complete as well, with opposition sides in place.
“To all intents and purposes we know who we’ll be playing and when,” he said.
“We’ve looked to plan the pre-season friendlies around our training programme, so the things we’re trying to work on, we look for the relevant opposition for that week to try and test us in that area.
“So if we’ve got a thorough programme working on defence a certain week then we want to be up against a good attacking opposition, who are going to have plenty of possession and give us a defensive challenge at the end of that week so we can test what we’ve been working on.
“We’ve got a number of those in place and I know Pete’s working hard to get those finalised so we can start letting the fans know what the schedule looks like. Obviously we were hoping to be in the play-off final, we had plans in place but we couldn’t action any of them because we weren’t certain which division we’d be in.
“So we planned for both outcomes, but we had to wait until our play-off process was finished so we could start actioning those things around recruitment and pre-season friendlies.”
