How this year’s A-levels will work
TODAY WILL see thousands of students given their A-level results across the region.
However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, there are still many questions parents may have about this year’s results day, according to jobs website Prospects.
When do A-level results come out? The A-level results day for 2020 is August 13.
How are grades being determined this year? Students will be given formal grades that fairly reflect the work they have put in, with these based on previous performance, including GCSEs and mock exams. Non-exam assessment such as coursework will also be taken into account, along with the grade they expected you to have achieved should exams have gone ahead.
Can you sit an exam if you are not happy with your grades? For those who feel that these grades do not accurately reflect their performance, there will be an opportunity to sit an exam later in the year.
When will UCAS track update on the day? The system is expected to be available at around 8am on results day. After
it has been updated, Track becomes ‘frozen’ and your page will not change again until midday at the earliest, according to Prospects.
What will Track show? If decisions have been made by your university choices, and UCAS have been notified, you can expect to see the following changes to offers on your Track:
• Unconditional – Your place on the course has been confirmed. This may be your firm or insurance offer, or both.
• Unsuccessful – You have

not been accepted by your choice(s). You are now eligible to enter Clearing.
Unconditional Changed Course – You do not have the necessary grades for your offer, but the university has proposed a similar course requiring lower grades. They may also offer an alternative start date, such as deferred entry. You have five days to decide and can discuss the opportunity it with them.
