Grix keen to reassure Fax fans after players depart the club

-

Halifax RLFC have revealed that three more players are to leave the squad ahead of the 2021 Betfred Championship campaign.

News that winger Jodie Broughton, full-back Reece Chapman-Smith and veteran hooker Tommy Lee are to leave comes hot on the heels of Steve Tyrer’s departure from the club.

Head coach Simon Grix told the club’s website: “Tommy would have been a great addition I am sure for the 2020 season and fit in seamlessly in his short time with us.

“Unfortunately, circumstances have made this decision and we wish him all the best.

“Jodie was a very tough call but again, the circumstances mean we couldn’t get him in.

“He was great in a short period, showing a glimpse of what we signed him for.

“He is a great bloke and his experience, whether playing or in another capacity, will make him an asset to the game should he continue.

“Reece has been a pleasure to have at the club over the last couple of years.

“For a few reasons, some out of his control, it has meant that game time has been limited.

And for him to further develop and enjoy his rugby, he needs to be playing regularly. He goes with our best wishes.”

The head coach insists the club are working hard to draft in replacements.

Grix added: “If you want quality players, they don’t just fall into your lap.

“The quality players have more suitors and more clubs chasing them, but they’re the players we want and it’s not just going to happen like that.”

“But we’re working hard to get them and that’s what we’re aiming for because there’s no point letting people leave if you’re going to get the same, the aim is the replace the outgoing with quality players.”
