Jordan does burpee tests in NHS fundraiser

- Sal Wilcox

JORDAN POWELL, from Mixenden, raised over £2,600 for Calderdale Royal Hospital by completing a gruelling burpee challenge.

Personal Trainer Jordan, 27, runs PWR Fitness in Halifax and has been posting three workouts a day for his members during lockdown.

“I’ve been posting daily digital work outs for my members, but by about week four of lockdown, I noticed that fewer people were participating, so I wanted to organise something to help motivate people to stay active. We’ve also got quite a few members that work for the NHS. We’ve been keeping in touch with them via Whatsapp and they’ve been having a pretty rough time. We just wanted to do something to show how much we appreciate everything they’re doing at the moment,” said Jordan.”

The dad of two challenged his gym to collectively complete 10,000 burpees. Individuals would take on sets of 100 of the gruelling squat thrusts and Jordan agreed to top up the total to 10,000. Another 80 members agreed to participate, meaning that Jordan had to do 2,000.

Jordan’s 2000 burpees took 3 hours, 9 minutes and 24 seconds to complete. During the challenge, Jordan burned a whopping 2,654 calories. Jordan says that the challenge was “intense” and he went into shock afterwards.

“The first 1,000 wasn’t too bad, but when I reached 1,600 it was horrible. Everything cramped up. It was a roasting hot day too and I started at 1pm, so I had the the sun lashing down whilst I was doing it. When I finished my step-son sprayed me with a bottle of prosecco and I ended up going into shock due to the sudden change of temperature.”

The collective 10,000 burpees took 80 members 14 hours and 45 minutes to complete.

Jordan has Colitis and Crohn’s disease, and says that his fitness journey has transformed his life.

“I love setting myself a challenge and pushing how far I can go. Fitness has completely changed my life and made me the person I am today. When I got my diagnosis my life was turned upside down. I started learning about my body and how it works and it’s led me to discovering this passion and starting my own business.”
