Slow Readers Club in Hebden

- Sal Wilcox

ROCK BAND ‘Slow Readers Club’ have announced that they will be playing a special gig at the Hebden Bridge Trades Club.

The gig is part of the ‘Passport: Back to Our Roots’, which hopes to raise funds for venues facing closure.

Elbow, Everything Everything and Public Service Broadcasting are also joining the campaign, playing different independent venues across the UK. Dates are yet to be announced.

Slow Readers Club commented: “Like loads of other bands, acts or performers, grassroots music venues were there to give us a stage when we first started out so to be part of this cause to ensure they survive and thrive makes total sense. It’s the least we can do. We’re buzzin to be going back to Hebden Bridge Trades Club. Low stage, bouncing .... proper can’t wait.”

Mal Campbell, Promotions Manager for the Trades Club, added: “We’re really thrilled to be welcoming The Slow Readers Club back to the Trades Club for this Passport: Back to Our Roots show. When they last played it was like squeezing an arena show into our small venue. And that was three years ago - before they had a top 10 album! It’s fantastic that they are doing this payback show to support the Trades Club & venues like us. We look forward to seeing the band, their crew & their brilliant fans soon for night to remember in Hebden Bridge.”

Eighty per cent of the money raised will go to the Music Venue Trust, who will then distribute it between the host venue and the venue crisis fund.
