more struggling families and more deprivation. We need our schools to reopen to get our children back to learning, get vulnerable young people back in a place of sanctuary and stop their mental health from suffering any more.
Everything the council is doing seems to me, plus all the family, friends and colleagues I’ve spoken with, to be completely out of proportion and so narrow in focus that it in itself presents a genuine threat to public health and the future of Calderdale.
Of course every case of coronavirus is one too many, every death (thankfully which are now very rare as we get better at treating it) a tragedy, but we’re going to have to live with this virus for some time and we can’t put everything on hold while we do that.
Doing so will destroy lives and it’s time the council accept the reality of this, widened their perspective and stopped terrifying its residents.
Fun Day at Crow Wood Park, due to take place on July, was cancelled it was hoped to hold a scaled down version on September 13.
Unfortunately due to the ongoing situation with Covid 19 the committee has had to concede that this will not now be practicable and will not therefore take place.
The event, which started in 2017 aiming to bring communities together in memory of Batley and Spen MP
Jo Cox, has quickly established itself in the local summer calendar and last year, when combined with the popular 10k and fun run for the first time, saw a record attendance.
Organised by Bluebird Care, Bolton Brow Academy, Friends of Crow Wood Park, Memory Lane Cafe, SB Rotary and SB Tesco, secretary Chris Harvey said in the current climate they were left with no other option than to cancel this year and hope to be be back bigger and better in 2021!
However, in the meantime there will be other activities for people to get involved in, starting off with a summer Trail.
This will soon be followed by a virtual balloon race in partnership with Overgate Hospice.
