Dragon tale is a roaring success

- Sal Wilcox

SOWERBY BRIDGE author, Sarah Stone, has teamed up with local artist, Sue Cordingley, to create children’s book ‘The Dragons Of Wainhouse Tower.’

Sarah used to live close to the famous Halifax landmark and could see it from the back of her house.

When her son was a baby, she made up a bedtime story for him about a clan of dragons who lived high up in the folly.

At the end of last year, Sarah arranged to have a small quantity of the books printed to give to her son and other family members at Christmas.

The book proved to be so popular that Sarah was en“It couraged to self-publish and make the book available to buy through Facebook. The first edition of 100 copies, released Easter 2020, sold out immediately and this has been followed by two further printings.

Sarah said: “Sue and I have been absolutely bowled over by the response to the book so far.

seems to appeal to children and adults alike who love the tower, linking them to their roots in Halifax and perhaps fairy tales their own parents told them about mythical creatures who lived there.

“Local retailers Trinkette in Sowerby Bridge, The Friendly Dragon and Book Corner in Halifax, and The Book Case in Hebden Bridge are all selling the book.

“We are really pleased about this as supporting independent shops is so important, especially during these challenging times’”

‘The Dragons Of Wainhouse Tower’ is now available to purchase for £10 in Calderdale book shops and the book’s dedicated Facebook page.
