League on high alert but all fixtures set to go ahead
ALL MATCHES in the ENCO Halifax Cricket League are set to go ahead as planned this weekend after two games were called off last weekend due to coronavirus.
Booth’s clash with Mytholmroyd and Warley’s game with Shelf Northowram HT in the Halifax Cricket League were called off after a player involved in Mytholmroyd’s game with Warley the previous weekend tested positive for coronavirus.
But the league is planning for things to be back to normal this weekend.
In a statement, the Halifax Cricket League said: “All clubs have been instructed to immediately advise the league secretary if any of its players and/or officials either test positive for Covid-19 or have any serious safety concerns.
“The league must also be provided with sequences of events and appropriate dates.
“Clubs are co-operating willingly in this process and all have reacted swiftly to take appropriate action.
“On receipt of any information all previous opponents of such clubs are being informed immediately to allow them to take appropriate action.
“The league has requested such clubs to inform all players, officials and supporters, who may have come into contact with members of the reporting club, in order that they can make an appointment to be tested at a local government testing facility or self-isolate as required.
“Any further reports will result in matches being cancelled immediately, in line with UK Government isolation guidelines, and the league is taking no chances once a report of a positive test at a club has been advised.
“The points per game average system, introduced by the management board for this truncated season, ensures no team is disadvantaged by any cancellation and there are no consequences for any club unable to fulfil fixtures, ensuring clubs put safety first as its main consideration.
“During the season 10 matches have been cancelled thus far due to either positive tests or safety concerns.
“As of today there have been no further positive Covid-19 cases reported, including anyone tested following the matches cancelled last weekend. All matches are scheduled to take place this weekend as planned.
“The management board would like to thank all clubs for their support and cooperation which has without exception been excellent.”
Just one game took place last weekend, with Great Horton winning at Upper Hopton in Division One in a 31 overs per team match. The home side closed on 122-8 but Horton replied with 126-1.
