Legend Bentley appointed first Fax Trust ambassador
HALIFAX PANTHERS’ Fax Trust has announced club legend John Bentley as its first ever ambassador.
Many Fax fans will remember Bentley’s exploits during his two spells with the club back in the 1990s.
He chalked-up an impressive 109 tries in 133 appearances, plus, according to the statistics, a single goal.
His performances brought him international honours for both England and Great Britain, and rugby union’s British Lions, making him one of a very select few players to have been capped in both codes.
Of course, statistics only tell half the story, and his sensational tackle-busting length of the field tries have become the stuff of legend among Halifax fans.
He and wing partner Mark Preston struck fear into many a team’s defence during their time with Fax.
Bentley still rates the times he spent at Halifax as some of the happiest of his long and illustrious career.
Since retiring as a player, he has maintained his connections with the game and currently he is involved with Leeds Tykes, as well as being President of the rugby charity Wooden Spoon, which aims to improve the lives of disadvantaged children.
He is also well known as a hilarious after dinner speaker.
Fax Trust is an independent supporters fundraising group which has provided Halifax with much needed cash for many years.
In recent years it has particularly been associated with Halifax’s reserve grade team, many of whose players have gone on to play with distinction for the first team.
