Bolton in top form as Pellon continue brilliant recovery

PELLON (DAVID Agnew, Mark Bolton, David Gowing, Keith Barker) have made a remarkable recovery in Division One of the Halifax Bowling Club’s Winter League.

In their latest game they were up against another relegation­threatened team in Lindley (Richard Saunders, Paul Cooney, Mark Sykes, Peter Hopkinson).

Lindley finished third last winter season but this season have not achieved their usual success.

In their latest game Lindley found themselves out-bowled by Pellon. Agnew, Bolton and Gowing all registered wins with Barker losing 21-20 to Hopkinson as Pellon ran out 22-13 winners.

This latest win for Pellon has moved them up the league table into fifth place with 199 points from their 12 games played. Their star player has been Mark Bolton, who has won seven consecutiv­e games.

Moving into the danger zone in the division is Four Play (Dave Russell, Keith Hanson, Derek Williamson, Ray Clegg).

They suffered a 21-11 defeat at the hands of old rivals Mavericks (Jason Greenwood, Peter

Krenc, Steve Holmes, Eric McGinnis). Only Russell bagged a win for Four Play when he beat Greenwood 21-16.

McGinnis and Krenc had outstandin­g wins against Clegg and Hanson. In their latest game Four Play faced champions elect Clayhouse and were beaten 24-9.

After 12 games Four Play are now in the relegation zone, with 187 points from 12 games played. Lindley are third from bottom with 192 points.

In Division Two, bottom teams Halifax Extra (Kath Webster, Chris Lindsay, John Crowson, Steve Webster) and Halifax Ladies (Mavis Walker, Ann Oates, Lynda Canning, Ann Ranton) registered their best results of the season.

Extra beat Kingston (Jack Shaw, Stuart Sykes, Roger Grey, Steve Clifford) 19-12 with victories for Kath and Steve Webster and Crowson. Sykes was Kingston’s lone winner with a 21-6 success against Lindsay.

Halifax Ladies (Lynda Canning, Mavis Walker, Ann Oates, Ann Ranton) had two winners against Blue Sox (Elspeth Hartley, Avril Humberston­e, Neil Dickie, Peter Grant).

Oates registered her first win of the season with a 21-9 success against Humberston­e and Canning beat Dickie 21-8.

For Blue Sox, Hartley and Grant were successful with wins against Walker and Ranton. The sides finished level at 14 points each.

In her next game for Halifax Ladies, in-form Oates produced her best performanc­e of the season against Fiery Jacks’ Mike Berry.

She found herself 13-0 down but a superb recovery saw her take the game 21-20.

Fiery Jacks (Berry, Bradford, Mick Walker, Ian Crossland) moved 10 points clear at the top of the table with this 22-10 win.

Peter Grant and Peter Gregory starred for Blue Sox (Grant, Gregory, Elspeth Hartley, Neil Dickie) as they registered wins over Julie Best and Linda Gledhill as Simply the Best (Best,

Gledhill, Linda Carter, Julie Mallinson) were restricted to a 17-16 win.

Fiery Jacks lead the table with 263 points from 12 games played and Simply the Best are 10 points behind.

Unbelievea­bowl have moved into the third spot, three points ahead of Tykes on 212 points.
