Dedicated head teacher Paul calls it a day
AMAZING, DEDICATED and outstanding are just some of the tributes paid to retiring head teacher at Old Earth School, Paul Reynolds.
Paul was a teacher at Rawson School and Old Earth, deputy head at Carr Green and head at Shelf J&I before becoming head at Old Earth in September 2005.
Some of his achievements at the school include introducing holiday clubs, mini buses, school extensions and extra classrooms, environmentally friendly initiatives such as allotments and solar panels, and various awards.
The school produced a special newsletter for Paul on his last day.
Emma Dixon, deputy headteacher, said: “The fun and laughter we’ve shared has been amazing. His guiding words will stay in my head forever, just as Old Earth will remain in his heart.
“Our guiding principle to always be “people led, not system led” will continue.”
“Smile it’s the law” is Paul’s phrase that all the family adhere to. He presented a flag to us on his retirement saying these words to fly proudly in the playground. Paul also left us with a special trophy which will be presented for ‘positive thinking’ at the end of the school year, as we do every year to the Year
Six leavers with a host of other special trophies.”
Malcolm D. Wragg, Co-Chair of Governors, said: “It is fair to say that as a young teacher, Old Earth was the making of him.
“And on his return, as the headteacher, he has been the making of Old Earth. Under his leadership the school has gone from strength to strength - to being outstanding by always having the philosophy that learning can be fun and enjoyable.
“In all, he has made an outstanding contribution to the ethos, the life and community of the school, and especially to the children.”
