Panthers sign Bourouh from Warriors on season-long loan

-

Wigan Warriors hooker Amir Bourouh has joined Halifax Panthers on a season-long loan ahead of the Betfred Championship 2021 campaign.

The 20-year-old represented local amateur side Siddal in his junior days before catching the attention of Wigan who then awarded Bourouh an academy contract at the age of just 14 in 2015.

A number of impressive performances for the Wigan Academy earned the youngster a call up to the England U16s side.

Bourouh then progressed to the Wigan U19s where he would go on to score 13 tries in 36 appearances over a two-year spell in 2018 and 2019.

After making his Wigan first team debut in 2019 against Salford Red Devils, Bourouh then went on to become an Academy Grand Final winner in their 2210 victory over St Helens at the DW Stadium.

Bourouh said: “I’m buzzing and honoured to have the opportunity to play for my hometown club for the season.

“I can’t wait to get going and hopefully I can add something to the exciting side Simon has built.”

Head Coach Simon Grix was delighted with his new acquisition, saying: “Amir is a local product on his way up in the game and circumstances dictate he needs somewhere to continue his development as he attempts to build on the positive performances he had for Wigan in 2020.”

Grix added: “He provides another option at 9 for us and I expect the competition to bring the best out of Brandon and Curtis.”

“He is quick out of dummy half and aggressive in defence with good habits from a successful environment.

“I’m sure he will prove to be a good acquisition.”

Bourouh will be sponsored by Zenith Independent Wealth Management in 2021.
