Family donates their mum’s car to hospice

-

OVERGATE HOSPICE has received an incredibly generous donation from two brothers in memory of their beloved mother, Elaine.

Scott Varley and Oliver Wheadon decided to donate their mum’s car to the hospice after she spent her final days in their care. It was presented to the staff at Elland-based Overgate and will be used by the nursing and education teams when working in the community.

Day Hospice Team members have been using the vehicle to travel to patient’s homes to support them with accessing the hospice’s online services. The car has even been named ‘Elaine’ by the hospice team.

Scott said: “From us it’s a very simple message of thanks and appreciation for what you do for the local community. We could not have coped without your intervention together with the great dignity, care and compassion shown to our mum in her final days as well as your offers of other forms of support to those left behind.

“We are proud to have been able to donate this and help to ensure you can continue to help others.”

Tracey Wilcocks, Director of Clinical Services, said, “We are so grateful. The car will help our staff to safely travel to and from our patients’ homes as well as allowing our education team to travel to local care homes to deliver vital training.”

The car has been branded with Overgate’s logo free of charge by Steve Clarkson from Custom Designs UK.
