We’re expecting a flood of tourists, says owner

-

THE OWNER of a Halifax town centre hotel is confident visitors will come flocking back once life returns to normal after lockdown.

Ravi Jain owns the Shakespeare Hotel on Horton Street in Halifax, having previously worked at The

Wool Merchant Hotel, and also owns hotels in Somerset and Scotland.

The Shakespeare Hotel has been open for around seven years but Mr Jain took over in June, and employs six staff.

He said: “I was hoping lockdown would finish by the end of March, but it looks like it’s going to extend until May.

“It’s difficult for owners but for staff as well. We’re definitely looking forward to getting things back to normal.

“Our thinking is that we’re hoping most people will be travelling locally rather than going abroad, and there will be loads of footfall within the country.

“For Halifax, we’re hoping the Piece Hall will organise something for a big re-opening after Covid to attract loads of tourists.

“There’s also Eureka! that is also a big attraction. I have friends living in London who travel to Halifax because of it.

“Once everything re-opens we’re expecting to have a flood of visitors in Halifax.

“I have regular customers who keep postponing their bookings because of the situation.

“Even restaurant-wise, we’re doing takeaways and deliveries and the comments people are leaving say they can’t wait to come and eat in the restaurant. So we’re hoping it will be good once it’s all re-opened.”
